The FBI's Newark Division was selected by FBI Director Robert Mueller III to host a Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (RCFL) in 2004. The New Jersey RCFL opened in November 2004. Since opening, the laboratory has handled more than 7,000 items of evidence and processed 131 terabytes of data in support of New Jersey law enforcement agencies. On November 21, 2006, the New Jersey Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory earned accreditation through the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD). We are the first digital forensic laboratory in the northeast to have attained such accreditation.
The RCFL is seeking interested law enforcement agencies that wish to join us in this important endeavor. To learn more about becoming a Participating Agency, contact NJRCFL Director Larry Depew at (609) 631-8777 or at ldepew@leo.gov.
